Few websites can more consistently make me laugh than Beverly Hills Car Club. This car is a ‘65 Mercedes 230SL listed at $7500!

Kinja'd!!!

And what do you get for your money? A car with most of the engine, none of the interior, no rear axle and most of the sheet metal removed with what looks like a combination of a sawzall and an angry dog.

Kinja'd!!!

You also get the factory removable hardtop, which has been bent, rusted and had its back glass removed for your convenience.

Kinja'd!!!

So if you can picture yourself behind the wheel of this car, call a mental health professional. Really.

We sold a good condition one of these (in daily driving condition, with very minor old body work) for just $10k a few years ago. Still makes me sad we couldn't have waited longer, it would have been at least twice that.

Yes, it’s a rare car. But no, it’s nowhere near worth that much.

Pretty sure that car is more rust than car.

I think it WAS useful for a different project car.

If that’s the shape they need to be in, I’ll list my Montego on there for 50 grand.

You do realize that there is still value in those cars right? They aren’t for the average Joe to walk in and buy and fix up. These cars are pretty much being sold for their VINs and whatever odds and ends are still intact. If you are buying these you are either one hell of restorer or a collector who is pretty much willing to rebuild the entire car.

Is this the same place that had the 912 that looked like it sat at the bottom of a swamp for the last 50 years?

Value yes, but there is no way there is $7500 of value in that when NADA value in “fair” condition is only a few thousand dollars more.

BHCC consistently prices their stock above market value, and their “project” cars are consistently nuts.

Certainly, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find a useable component on the entire car. How much can the VIN possibly be worth?

Depending on the car a VIN is quite valuable.
